Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, changing your residence is a great chance for new beginnings. However, before you can enjoy the perks of your new home, you have to tackle the task of moving. Fortunately, the process doesn’t have to be exhausting when you keep these simple tips in mind.
Start by Decluttering
If it’s been a while since you have gone through your belongings thoroughly, now is the perfect time to do it. After all, you don’t want to take the time to pack and move items to your new home that you no longer need.
Make separate bags for donations and trash, and go through every room, closet, and drawer in your home. Only take things with you that you value and that you know you will use in the future.
Perhaps the most important factor in planning a smooth move is organization. It can be really tempting to just toss everything into boxes to get your packing done more quickly, but you are sure to regret this when it comes time to unpack.
Instead, label each box with the room name that it should be placed in when you get to your new home. It’s also helpful to notate a broad category on each box; for instance: Lucy’s stuffed animals, outdoor Christmas decorations, or bathroom medicine cabinet.
Even if you are not moving for several weeks, now is the best time to get started! When you start early, you can begin packing boxes with non-necessities at your convenience instead of having to stay up all night to pack everything the night before your moving truck arrives.
Put on your favorite movie or music, and tackle moving tasks and boxes one at a time. With careful organization and labeling, unpacking your new home will be enjoyable instead of stressful.
